Day 40 - The Plane, The Plane

Traveling today, so here are some sketches of folks at the airport as well as some in-flight doodles:

Day 39 - Mad Man

A quick sketch inspired by 60's ad illustrations and the characters on Mad Men. There's a lot of smoking on the show (which I assume takes place in Flavor Country).

Day 35 - Old Man Walking

Trying out a new coloring technique that's intended to give this sketch a watercolor look.

Day 34 - Candelabra Concern

Why is this woman holding a candelabra and looking pensive? I wish I had an answer for you, I really do.

Day 24 - Come On Down!

We're going to a taping of The Price is Right tomorrow, so here's a sketch of host Drew Carey.

Day 23 - Kid Study

Apologies for the roughness of today's sketch, but I've actually been doing some freelance illustration all day today (hooray!) This is something I doodled during a quick break.

Day 22 - The Sour Plum Fairy

Inspired by this cover of Tchaikovsky's classic. Those may look like sugar plums, but I assure you -- they're sprinkled with Twang.

Day 20 - One More Mermaid

One more attempt at a scary mermaid. This one feels a little closer to what I was trying to draw yesterday.

This Day in Historical Fiction - November 19, 1863: President Lincoln travels deep into the underground catacombs of Gettysburg in search of the treasure of Amun-Ra.

Day 8 - Toon Raccoon

Today's sketch is the result of playing around with the digital painting tools in Photoshop.

Day 7 - The L.A. Zoo

I went to the L.A. Zoo to sketch today, and these animals were all good models. In fact, Rosie the orangutan noticed us sketching her, so she came right up to the glass and posed for us!

Day 6 - Dear Catastrophe Waitress

I've always thought the Belle & Sebastian song "Dear Catastrophe Waitress" had a funny title. Whenever I hear it I imagine some variation on the scenario above.

Day 5 - Sketchbook Cowboys

Sketches from imagination of a cowboy in the middle of a tall tale.

"He was forty feet tall if he was a day, Sheriff!"
